Money |
| The
South African Currency is the Rand (symbolised by R before
amounts). One hundred cents equal one rand. There are same-size notes
in different colours for R10, R20, R50, R100 and R200. Copper coins
are for 1, 2 and 5 cents. Yellow coins are for 10, 20 and 50 cents.
Silver coins are for R1, R2 and R5. |

Cards |
Credit
cards, especially Visa and Master Card, are widely accepted
at restaurants and shops.
Important: Petrol can't be bought on credit card! |

Foreign
Exchange and Banks |
Very
few shops and restaurants accept payment in foreign currency. Foreign
currency can be exchanged or cash withdrawn on credit cards at banks.
You'll need positive ID. Most banks are open Mon-Fri 09h00-15h30 and
Sat 09h00-11h00. Autobanks are found in most towns and operate on
a 24-hour basis.
The Thomas Cook agent is Rennies Travel, a large chain of travel
agencies. They change travellers' cheques without charging commission!
